Spotlight (2015)

What can you say about Spotlight? If you haven’t seen it, go and watch it immediately! Despite winning all the awards, including Best Picture at the 2016 Oscars, this is a film that often seems to be kept out of the ‘spotlight’ and remains not very well known. Possibly it has been the target of a soft suppression campaign by the well-resourced Roman Catholic organisation, who would have every reason for such an action against it, as it spectacularly reveals Catholicism to be the world’s largest pedophile ring.

Hopefully that is not a spoiler. Either way the movie is well worth seeing as it is put together beautifully, an investigative reporting unravelling akin to ‘All The Presidents Men’ as Boston Globe journalists delve into the world of sexual abuse in Boston’s Roman Catholic diocese and the thread just keeps going on and on and on.

Beyond the tour de force direction from Tom McCarthy, the film’s subject matter packs a powerful punch and has a sobering conclusion, one that continues to affect US politics today.
